Reflect
Reflect is a mechanic that causes an effect to affect its source in addition to its target. While damage is the effect most commonly reflected, curses and ailments can be reflected too. Due to the nature of character damage scaling being much higher than that of monsters, most characters will instantly die upon taking any amount of reflected damage.
For the purposes of clarity, the following terms will be defined: "reflecter" and "reflectee". A "reflecter" is the party who is reflecting the effect, while the "reflectee" is the party to which the effect is being reflect onto. The reflectee is also the source of the effect.
Mechanics of damage reflection
Damage reflection depends upon the damage taken after mitigation, not the amount of life/energy shield removed.[1][2]
The offensive stats of a reflecter can affect whether the reflectee takes reflected damage (accuracy, block chance reduction, etc.), but cannot affect the amount of damage dealt to the reflectee. (critical strikes, penetration, ignoring resistance, damage modifiers, etc).[3]
Although reflected damage hits, it intentionally does not trigger most on/when hit effects[4] and cannot cause status ailments[5], stun[6], critical strikes, and other similar effects that require a hit. Damage category
All damage falls into categories that define their interaction with the game's mechanics. All reflected damage falls into one of three categories - attack, spell, or secondary damage. The fourth damage source, damage over time, doesn't hit and thus can't be reflected. The source of reflected damage is always the same as the source of the damage dealt to the reflectee, e.g. if the reflecter hits with a spell, the reflected damage is spell damage.[2]
Interaction with leech
Leech is processed before reflect damage.[7] Therefore the order of operations is:
- Hit a target -> Leech -> Receive reflected damage
This means that instant leech cannot indirectly mitigate reflected damage taken.
Reflect mitigation
- Sources of x% reduced Reflected Damage taken or modifiers that grant immunity to reflected damage directly counter the effects of reflected damage. However, they work additively to sources of increased damage taken; for example, if you have exactly 100% reduced reflected damage taken but are shocked for 10% damage taken, you can still take reflected damage.
- Damage over time cannot be reflected.
- Damage dealt by a player's totems, traps, mines, and minions will be reflected back to the totem/trap/mine/minion, not the player.
- If the reflected damage is attack damage, it can be evaded. The reflected damage uses the accuracy rating of the attacker.[8]
- Consequently, reflected attack damage with the hits can't be evaded modifier cannot be evaded by the player. It can still be blocked.
- Reflected attacks can be negated with block, and reflected spells can be mitigated by spell block of spell dodge from Acrobatics.[9]
- Reflected damage is reduced by both the attacker's and the defender's armour and resistances. For instance, if a player with 75% lightning resistance deals 100 lightning damage to a monster with 20% elemental damage reflection, the player will only take 5 of the reflected 20 lightning damage.

Monster modifiers
The Summons Voodoo Doll monster modifier creates an effigy that deals 50% of damage taken to the player while linked. The link can be broken by moving away. Also, the effigy is invulnerable for the first 2 seconds, so killing the monster fast enough can negate it.
Atziri, Queen of the Vaal has a passive 2% physical and elemental reflection. While split, the form holding the mirror has 100% physical and elemental reflection.
Map modifiers
Some map modifiers give all monsters in that map a damage reflection, either physical or elemental. This is the most common form of reflected damage.
