When this support gem is linked to a skill gem, it alters the skill so that instead of the player casting the skill directly, the player instead lays a trap. The trap is invisible to enemies, and the first enemy to enter the trap's trigger radius sets off the trap. That enemy is targeted by the linked skill, and the trap is destroyed.
When Trap is linked in combination with the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Remote Mine" and Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Spell Totem" or Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Ranged Attack Totem" gems, the result is a skill that lays a mine. When the mine is detonated, it lays a trap. When the trap is sprung, it casts a totem, which then can cast the linked skill. You cannot create traps that lay mines, or totems that lay mines or traps.
Attack Skills: Trap will affect a linked attack skill if that skill is ranged. Attacks such as Frenzy and Elemental Hit, which normally operate with ranged or melee weapons, will only be affected by trap if you have a ranged weapon equipped.
For more information about traps, see Traps.
Skill Functions and Interactions
Cooldown: The gem overrides the cooldown on supported skills with the trap cooldown. For example when the support gem is combined with Cold Snap you can use it multiple times in a row, as long you have trap charges remaining.
